Top things to see in the Exumas Bahamas

The Exumas is a conjunction of cays in the Bahamas with a variety of things to see and do. It is the top one destination from the country. Weather you are going to visit those cays with a tour from Nassau, a charter boat, flying to each of them or on board of a sailing boat, here are the things that you can’t miss.

Allen’s cay

The cay is famous for it’s historical iguanas that will come to you for food. There are also two nice and pristine beaches and ruins from an abandoned house.

Staniel Cay

Is quite a big community considering its quick development by tourism. This cay is the entry door for Big Majors Spot, a beach where many pigs live and swim.

Those pigs are daily fed by plenty of tourists and the might bite you if you don’t show them on time that you don’t have nothing to offer. I saw a tourist being bitten by one in her leg and was quite a injury. Staniel has also a supermarket, laundry and marina with great Bar & Restaurant. From stainel cay the Thunder-ball grotto can be visited, where the movie was shot.

Compass Cay

Has a marina where is possible to feed and swim with nurse sharks (they call them pet sharks). A friend of mine was bitten there by one of them. I didn’t visited this cay because I was traveling on a sailing boat and the water was to shallow to get closer to the Marina. Similar experience can be done in Black Point.

Norman’s Cay

Was an area controlled by Pablo Escobar mafia between 1978 and 1982. In 1980 a plane didn’t manage to land in the airstrip and fall in a sand back.

This plane is an awash wreck full of life and can be seen from above the water on low tide.

Warderick Cay

Is a national park protected by park rangers. Beautiful beaches, a blow hole, hikes and the impressive Emerald Rock are one of the attractions.

Blackpoint

A nice and friendly community with some facilities such as laundry, showers, groceries stores. Sharks and rays come to shore every day to eat leftover of fishermen. If you like animal interaction just jump in but don’t touch them, nurse sharks do bite when bothered.
