Famous for having the world’s biggest beer selection and located in the capital of Belgium, Delirium cafe broke the guinness record with a selection of 2004 beers in the year of 2004. I celebrated my 26 year old birthday in this incredible 3 levels bar.
The beer Delirium Tremens, also elected one of the bests in the world, is the favorite from the house.
The place is pretty touristy, but still with great environment. It has three main floors, underground (bottle bar and live shows), ground floor (pints bar) and second floor (spirits bar and no music). It is always very crowded.
I used my passport with the birthdate and got 3 free drinks, one in each bar. I also met a few Brazilians that offered me a 2 litters cup of beer and sang happy birthday
As the beer is very strong, on average 15% alcohol degree, I got a little drunk and fall asleep in the bathroom for about 2 hours. At 8 in the morning the bartender in the spirits bartender found me there and kicked me out of the bar that was already closed. The next day I went again with two Brazilians, a Dutchman and an American I met at the hostel.
This time I went to buy a beer and the same bartender said: Remember yesterday? So today you can only drink this bottle, it’s your first and last! Of course he was not serious, but it was very funny. On this day I also tried the beer made by monks, a very famous Belgian beer. The bar is super decorated and the menu, which is a book with more than 2 thousand beers, can be bought for 5 euros.
